Update: Kara Swisher of AllThingsDigital reports that Microsoft has closed a deal to buy Skype, the voice over Internet protocol phone service. Skype’s valuation is said to be as much as $8.5 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal. Officials from neither company would comment; Swisher reports a deal will be announced Tuesday morning.
