The patent battle between Apple and Samsung seems to have taken a scene from the Theater of the Absurd. In response to Apple’s claim that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 had “slavishly copied” Apple’s iPad, Samsung has provided its own, er, evidence: images from Stanley Kubrik’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, which show two astronauts using personal tablet computers. That’s right, folks, movie evidence.
Another school year is right around the corner, which usually means there’s plenty of back-to-school shopping to be had. However, rather than buy notebooks, pencils, highlighters, and calculators, students can replace all of their school needs with a slew of instrumental, easy-to-use apps for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.
Could this be the first step in moving all magazines to digital tablet-format? Google released a free iPad app called Google Catalogs, which allows users to window shop familiar glossy print publications that were previously exclusive to print magazines, such as Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, L.L. Bean, and others.
Yesterday, we reported on Hewlett-Packard’s miserable TouchPad sales, and how retailers are particularly unhappy with the tablets and wished HP to take them back. Well, it looks like they got their wish, and then some. HP has decided not only to take back and discontinue production of its TouchPads, but in a stunning move, the company has also decided to discontinue all WebOS operations in general. This means that the company will cease production on tablets, phones, and all devices that run WebOS.
