Will It Be Black Thursday This Year?

After you’ve stuffed yourself with turkey this Thursday, what will you do next? While some may nap or watch football, a huge number of Americans will get started [1] on their holiday shopping, according to prognosticators at PayPal.

Experts say mobile shopping, which has been growing by leaps and bounds, may triple this year over last year. PayPal reports seeing $10 million in mobile payments daily, even before the start of the holiday shopping season. Mobile and online shopping mean no waiting for stores to open, which is why PayPal expects the holiday season to start on Thursday rather than the traditional “Black Friday” this year.

And while shoppers are expected to spend, they’ll likely do it more cautiously [2] than in years past, according to a new study from Deloitte, which reports that nine out of ten shoppers know what they’re going to buy before arriving at a store.
