Yahoo!, Microsoft, and AOL Join Forces on Search Advertising

If you can’t beat ‘em, gang up on ‘em! That seems to be the logic behind the new agreement [1] among Yahoo!, Microsoft, and AOL to sell advertising via each others’ portals.
The idea is that the agreement will increase the reach of each company by allowing advertisers to buy all three in a one-stop-shopping arrangement. The non-exclusive deal also allows for other partnerships with other firms. That’s great, but it doesn’t address what the three partners don’t have: People actually looking at their search ads. Bloomberg reports [2] that Google got 65.3 percent of all search traffic in September, up from 64.8 percent the month before.
