Apple ^[1] is looking to make a big splash next year when it launches the iPad 3. But there’s a big question: Will there be enough iPads for consumers? Rumor has it that the innovative tech giant might have some trouble on the production side.

The problem isn’t with the iPad 3, however, it’s with components. The new iPads will sport the “retina display” that is comparable to that on the iPhone; this will be a “quantum leap” in pixel density, says an unnamed source. The challenge, however, is scale: can Apple successfully produce a larger-screen version of the iPhone’s display for the mass market? Will Apple’s suppliers be able to deliver?
