Will Klout’s New Algorithm Affect Your Score?

How much do you care about your Klout score? While some people shrug off their mysterious social-influence-measurement number, others care deeply if their Klout goes up or down, and some of them were less than pleased [1] when the new algorithm launched and they experienced a dramatic drop.
The new system, so far as it’s been explained, seems designed to better measure your influence by looking at not only how many people you influence, but how influential they are and how likely they are to be moved to actions by something you do (which I guess translates to Facebook likes and shares, Twitter retweets, and Google+ +1s and shares). An added feature, Klout Insights, will help users understand better how their score was determined and what they can do to improve it.
“A majority of users will see their Scores stay the same or go up but some users will see a drop,” explained Ash Rust, Klout’s director of ranking in the blog post [1] announcing the change. “In fact, some of our Scores here at the Klout HQ will drop.” He adds: “We believe our users will be pleased with the improvements we’ve made.”
Not necessarily, at least so far, based on more than 1,100 comments to Rust’s post. One disgruntled user put it this way: “This could be a blunder on a Netflixian scale…”
