
Tablets are becoming a bigger part of our tech lives—and in a very short period of time. According to a new study by Pew Research Center, 11 percent of U.S. consumers own tablets. Considering that it has been just 18 months since Apple “redefined” the category in March 2010, that number is significant.
According to Pew’s findings, 77 percent of tablet owners use their devices an average of 90 minutes every day. So what are they doing? Most use if for general web browsing (67 percent) and emailing (54 percent). However, social networking (39 percent) and gaming (30 percent) are also popular. And Amazon and Netflix (and Hulu, too) might want to pay attention: Reading books accounts for 17 percent of activities and 13 percent use their tablets to watch movies.
