‘Anti-Facebook’ Start-up Unthink.com Opens for Beta Testers

Billing itself as the “anti-Facebook [1],” startup Unthink.com [2] has just opened its doors to first-round beta testers. Founded on Earth Day in 2008, the company sees itself as a different kind of social networking company, one that focuses on connecting and collaborating with like-minded folks in a social-changey kind of way.
What’s interesting about Unthink, though, is the way it handles user data. Instead of providing all your information to advertisers, Unthink lets the user select a brand to sponsor their page via an iEndorse ad. Uses can also go sponsor-free for $2 a year.
Unthink has raised $2.5 million in funding from DouglasBay Capital.
But Unthink’s campaign might need some work, says TechCrunch’s Sarah Perez. The Tampa-based company defines itself by what it isn’t: not Facebook, not another social network, etc. And Unthinkers are not users. Is this a wise strategy? Only time will tell.
