
Sales of personal computers are falling, but they’re slipping very, very slowly. PC shipments increased 3.2 percent in 3Q, well below seasonal averages, according to Gartner research. While PCs fall, smartphones and tablet sales expand extraordinary. So why haven’t PCs totally gone the way of the dinosaurs? Consumers in emerging markets are buying PCs in droves — basically doing what their first-world counterparts did 20 years ago. PC sales in China went up 12 percent, and in India, up 21 percent.
