
Coming soon: a new BlackBerry operating system, BBX. It’s a combination of the existing smartphone OS and QNX, the system for Research in Motion‘s tablet. The new OS will be optimized for smartphones, tablets, and other mobile goods. “The whole company is aligning behind a single platform,” said RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis. While Lazaridis was pleased to make the BBX announcement at DevCon, and to skip a long speech about last’s week service outage, he was short on details. Like, when BlackBerry’s will start carrying BBX. “In the not too distant future,” RIM executives say, BBX prototypes will surface for public consumption.
