M.C. Hammer announced his latest venture at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco this week. The startup, a search engine called WireDoo, searches not just words but relations – searching “house” will also bring up results that may include homeowner’s insurance and interior decorating. The service is under construction and has not yet been made available to the public.

Hammer said that he sees opportunities for investment in technology, and observed that some investors have made substantial sums after putting their money in tech startups. “Why create another search engine?” Hammer queried the audience. “Well, what if Sergei and Larry had not tried?”

WireDoo plans to differentiate itself by providing what Hammer described as “deep search” or “relational search.”

“You could always make things better, create the next version,” Hammer said during his presentation. “No one’s playing for singles in the Valley anymore.”
