AddThis [1] provides code making it effortless for users to share interesting articles and other content with their social network and other contacts–the little links to Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, email and more that you often find in the upper right-hand corner of anything you happen to read online.
The company is five years old, its code is used on 10 million websites and has been used by 1.2 billion people. With stats like that, AddThis figured, they could do some meaningful analytics.
The result is an infographic [2] that gives some interesting insights into when and how people share the content they encounter online. For instance, peak sharing time is 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The preferred sharing method is Twitter, with Facebook “likes” a very distant second. Sharing to MySpace, not surprisingly, is on the decline.
