Google picked up minor social analytics player SocialGrapple, a Twitter analytics tool that generates charts and graphs reflecting data gathered on a user’s online presence. Google has confirmed that SocialGrapple’s team, including founder Andrey Petrov, will be joining the company.

“SocialGrapple started a year ago, and launched only a couple of months later as a social graph analytics service,” Petrov wrote on SocialGrapple’s home page. “It was an amazing learning experience and I am incredibly grateful to all the users who supported this venture. Much of what was built over the months came directly from your needs and requests, so I feel like we were all on this journey together.”

SocialGrapple offered standard and premium accounts that delivered detailed charts and email reports measuring changes in a company or brand’s Twitter presence.

Google+ has yet to attract anything like the dedicated fan bases enjoyed by Facebook and Twitter, and it may be that Google acquired SocialGrapple to increase the capabilities of its social networking service. A built-in analytics service might allow companies and brands that use Google+ to better measure their online impact.
