AT&T to Offer Dual IDs on Smartphones

One challenge for companies that allow employees to bring their own devices such as smartphones and tablets to work is separating personal usage from business usage, with the latter having different requirements in terms of security. To address that issue, AT&T has announced its Toggle application and service that lets users create two distinct identities on a smartphone or tablet.
Toggle will let users create a personal account on their device so they can freely browse the Internet, send text messages to friends, watch TV shows and movies, and play games as they normally would. At the same time a second, more secure account that can be managed by a company’s IT department can let users access corporate e-mail, applications, calendars and more, just as they would on a company-provided device.
Companies that use the service will be able to manage which employees have access to what company resources, add, update and delete business applications on employees’ personal devices, and wipe all corporate information stored in work mode if an employee leaves the company or loses his or her device.
AT&T Toggle will be available by the end of the year.
