
We often praise the entrepreneurs who see a business model in anything. Then there are the ones using Steve Jobs’ death to make a little cash.In the day and a half since we learned of Jobs’ demise, scammers have popped all the around the Web, hoping to lure gullible users. One Facebook hoax took in 15,000 people, all trying to get one of the 50 free iPads given away in Jobs’ honor. The more people that visit these bogus sites, the better for the scam artist.
“How do the scammers make money?” says Graham Cluley, a senior technology consultant at cyber-security firm Sophos. “Well, they are earning affiliate cash – in a nutshell, they make more money the more traffic they can direct to websites, driving more people to become customers, or take online surveys and competitions.”
