Amazon May Buy HP’s Discarded WebOS Division

HP [1] may have a buyer for its webOS division: Amazon [2]. The two companies are in “serious negotiations” over the deal. Amazon already made headlines worldwide with the release of its tablet computer, the Kindle Fire [3]. Tech analysts have already declared the closest thing out there to an iPad-killer, and debate has raged over what the Fire will mean to iPad sales. Obviously, Amazon’s addition of an entire division devoted to mobile-operating system could change the game further.

HP has been shopping for a buyer over the last few weeks, ever since it announced [4] that it would end webOS production after the disastrous results of its tablet, the TouchPad. You know, the device that needed a fire sale [4] to move off shelves.

We know Amazon is a fan of low pricing, but fire sales? Probably not.
