Facebook Forms PAC

It was only a matter of time… Facebook [1], in a turn to the political, has formed a political action committee (PAC). The PAC, says a Facebook spokesperson, will “give employees a way to make their voices heard in the political process” by supporting candidates who share the company’s goals.
The announcement is not surprising. Facebook has been increasing its presence in Washington and its political clout, particularly among DC’s digerati for a while. It has also increased its lobbying spend [2], shelling out $550,000 so far this year. The PAC was incorporated on Monday after the company registered the domains Fbpac.org and Fbpac.us.
But Facebook is not alone in the lobbying game, says Michael D. Shear and Jennifer Preston at The New York Times. Companies such as LinkedIn and Google are also ramping up their spending on lobbyists, with Google increasing its spending to $2.06 million in the second quarter.
