Millennial Media, a mobile advertising company, has released a report on impression share in the mobile ad market for August. Android led the industry with a 54 percent share of total impressions. Millennial combined data for tablets, smartphones, and other connected devices for its report. Apples iOS commanded 28 percent of impressions.

Apple has a significant lead in the tablet market, however, due to the success of the iPad. The company holds 23 percent of the smartphone device market, according to Millennial’s report. The closest hardware competitor is HTC, with 16 percent of the market.

While market analysts are not agreed on the value of mobile ads, David Nachum, a product manager with Google Ads, wrote Wednesday on a company blog that Google’s AdWords will soon count mobile optimization among its ad quality criteria.

“As a result of this change, ads that have mobile optimized landing pages will perform better in AdWords – they will generally drive more mobile traffic at a lower cost,” Nachum wrote.

We have seen very similar data at our company, as well as increased demand from advertisers.
