Google will soon attach its +1 button to web and mobile display advertisements. The feature will begin to appear on ads in early October, the company has said. The company may be wagering that Google+, which has not caught on as an alternative to Facebook, may draw in some new members by catering to brands.
When a person clicks the +1 button on an ad, Google says, that ad may appear with a recommendation to the person’s friends across Google’s display platform.
Google has said that the +1 button is producing 4 billion impressions after four months. The company has said that button will help companies target their advertising. “For the first time, you’ll be able to run social-enabled ad campaigns that work across millions of sites in over 40 countries around the world,” Eider Oliveira, a senior software engineer, wrote on the Google company blog.
