Gamestop Entering Crowded Tablet Market

The video-games retailer expects to compete with the established favorites using a pre-existing tablet bundled with games.

Video-games retailer GameStop may look to move into the very crowded mobile-device market and release a Android-based tablet next year. Gamestop expects to compete directly with the pre-existing giants: Apple, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony.

The tablet won’t be designed specifically for GameStop. The company will pick out an existing tablet, and sell it with preloaded games, differentiating it with the competition. Gamestop President Tony Bartel says, “We looked at all the tablets and these are the ones that really worked for gaming and we’re going to give out a few benefits that you’re not going to get elsewhere.” Right now, the tablet is in test phase.
