PDF Expert 3.0 Saves Paper, Time, Postage, Gas

If you frequently work with PDF files, $9.99 might be worth paying to get the latest update of an iPad app that lets you do things like annotate and sign them right there on your tablet. Since my husband just yesterday printed a PDF document our insurance company e-mailed him–and wasted eight pieces of paper doing it, not to mention the gas involved in driving the sheets across town–I thought I’d give it a shot.
To get that file out of my husband’s e-mail and into the app, I just had to go into his mail (he said he didn’t mind), find the message, and tap and hold my finger on the attachment to open it in PDF Expert 3.0.
From there it was pretty intuitive. To annotate, you simply tap where you want to write something. The keyboard pops up and when you’re done, the words show up in red at the spot you first touched, although you can make them whatever color you want. If you don’t like where the text lands, you can move them around on the page.
The signature feature is pretty slick. To use it you just tap and hold the page in the spot to sign. From there, you can either choose to sign for yourself or get a customer’s signature. If you choose the latter, a big white screen pops up with a dotted line where a client could sign with his fingertip. If you sign for yourself, the app saves your signature so you can use the same one every time like a stamp.
You can also add images to a PDF, which actually would have saved time for my husband, who had to send our insurance agent a photo of our wood-burning stove separately, then wait for her to add it to the file and get it back to him.
Once you’re done making changes to the document you can e-mail it to someone, save a copy or print (assuming you have an Airprint-supported printer).
While the price is a bit spendy as apps go, for heavy PDF users, it’s probably worth it. For more information about PDF Expert 3.O, visit Readdle [1].
