Bosch Invests in e-Field Technology Company

Forget “touch” technology: German electronics and tech giant Bosch [1] is investing in the future in a big way. The company’s venture capital arm has funded Ident Technology AG [2], which is developing a new chip for gestural control. Ident’s e-field technology track users hand gestures in front of displays in real time, which could make your smart phone even smarter.

Ident, which operates in the mobile and gesture-control space, is working on The GestIC, a 3D gestural control chip that is meant to be an integrated system-on-chip for a variety of devices (smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, etc.) says Venture Beat’s Jolie O’Dell. GestIC would also offer low power consumption.

Bosch, as well as existing investors MIG Funds and Danube Equity, funded this round to the tune of roughly $10 million.
