Google Cleans House, Discontinues More Products

As part of its recent efforts to streamline and focus on social media, Google is shuttering more products. We recently reported the company was winding down Labs [1] and Slide [2]. Now you can add these to the list of disappearing Google offerings.
Those slated for the chopping block or to be merged into other Google products as features include: Aardvark, Google Desktop, Fast Flip, Google Maps API for Flash, Google Pack, Google Web Security, Image Labeler, Google Notebook, Sidewiki, and Subscribed Links.
Google Senior VP Alan Eustace announced its “fall spring-clean” in a blog post.
“This will make things much simpler for our users, improving the overall Google experience. It will also mean we can devote more resources to high impact products—the ones that improve the lives of billions of people,” he wrote.
A lot has been changing at Google in recent months. Larry Page [3] succeeded Eric Schmidt as CEO in April. Then in June it launched Google+ [4]. And last month, Google announced it would be acquiring mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility [5] for about $12.5 billion.
