Tech media outlets have been buzzing for days about the drama surrounding the case of an iPhone 5 that went missing when an Apple employee left it at a San Francisco tequila bar. Sound like a familiar scenario? It is. Back in April 2010 the same thing happened when someone left an iPhone 4 prototype at a Bay Area beer garden.

After tracing the phone to a home in the city’s Bernal Heights neighborhood, an Apple security team enlisted the San Francisco Police to accompany them there where they searched for it without success.

CNET reports Apple also is trying to retrieve a prototype laptop in the hands of a North Carolina man who said he bought the unreleased device via Craigslist for spare parts. And in another odd situation last week, an Apple store customer was accidentally given internal company media and documents after taking his computer in for service in Stamford, Conn.

Whether coincidence or in response to all the lost products, the company has posted two job openings [1] for managers of “New Product Security.”
