Bitdefender Releases Anti-Malware App for Twitter

Bitdefender, a software application developer, has released an anti-malware program for Twitter users. The app, SafeGo [1], is designed to protect Twitter users from spam and phishing scams, as well as malware, by alerting them with a direct message when a security threat is detected. The company already has a similar offering available for Facebook [2].
The popular social media site has had some difficulty [3] keeping its microblogs free of malware. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission took the site to task [4] in 2010 after a number of high-profile Twitter accounts were hacked, including those of Fox News, Facebook, and President Barack Obama. The case was resolved when the company agreed to implement several of the FTC’s security recommendations.
