Cloud-Sync Company Funambol Raises $3 Million

Funambol [1], an open source cloud-sync company, has completed a $3 million round of funding from HIG Ventures, Pacven Walden Ventures, and Nexit Infocom. The company’s service helps users synchronize portable devices like laptops and tablet computers with networks and stationary systems over the Internet. Among the company’s clients are Alcatel-Lucent, Sprint, and cloud server provider Rackspace.
Three years ago [2] the company completed a $12.5 million dollar round of funding, its second, with Walden International and HIG Ventures. At that time the company’s primary product was cloud-based services for mobile devices. The company is partnered with AOL, and provides the technology for AOL Sync [3], a cloud-based service that allows for remote back up and data synchronization.
