Amazon’s Tablet May Premiere Early 2012

Smaller version with 7-inch screen may be out as early as October.

Amazon’s 10-inch tablet won’t be in stores until after the holidays, according to Digitimes. The Taiwanese site cites “sources from upstream component suppliers.” The report says that the company plans to have a version of its tablet with a seven-inch screen out by October, priced at around $300.

Production of the 10-inch model will begin in the first quarter of 2012, DigiTimes reports.

For the moment, the iPad retains its hold on the tablet market. HP’s TouchPad flopped, until they adopted a liquidation plan one step removed from handing devices out on street corners. The Amazon tablet is expected to price in somewhere below the iPad, and HP’s misfire seems to indicate that there is a market for tablets with the capabilities of an iPad at a lower price.

Good luck to Amazon. I hope they do well. This will be good for people who use Amazon as main content provider or even if you just want a more versatile kindle. At 250 I would be skeptical of quality but I guess we will see that.

The other point here is that some posts are still after “blood” in the tablet market. Why do any of the devices have to go in order for another to be successful or good. I use Apple products and I don’t mind others using what they like. Very childish. How many stores sell t-shirts? Choice is good for all of us!
