In a bid to make its browser relevant in the mobile era, Mozilla is focusing on developing Firefox for Android and tablets. And with good reason, says CNet’s Stephen Shankland: Although Firefox enjoys the number-two spot in browser rankings, it is falling short when it comes to the mobile space.

The shift into high gear is Mozilla’s bid to maintain relevance in an era of Android and iOS. The company faces several challenges, says Shankland. Second, the company has to address user experience—improving memory and lowering power consumption are key.

The forthcoming Firefox 7 for mobile devices should address some of these issues, says Shankland.
