Financial Times Withdraws App From Apple

The Financial Times [1] removed its app for iPad [2] and iPhone [3] from the Apple App Store [4] over concerns for customers’ privacy and profit losses.

Apple began to require that subscriptions for apps go through the app store. In doing so, it gave the company access and ownership of customers’ data, in addition to 30 percent of revenue. It has since loosened some restrictions [5] and struck up deals with individual companies.

The Financial Times and Apple negotiated, but didn’t reach an agreement. Before fully removing the app from Apple’s store, the newspaper launched [6] a Web-based version on its website in June.
