
While many of us have been focused on Google+ and its challenge to Facebook, little attention has been given to what this means in terms of SEO, says PowerReviews SVP of sales and marketing, Cathy Halligan. She notes that Google+ isn’t just a challenge to Facebook in the social networking space, but is a reflection of how Google views—and uses—user-generated content (UGC).
Little media attention has been paid to many of the SEO shifts and improvements that Google has made to monetize “social” information, she says. Google does the following:
- incorporates UGC into search engine results and into Google’s Shopping and Hotel Finder;
- innovates user experience and UGC (social content);
- has improved the Search Engine Results Page, reflecting the significance of UGC
The key to Google’s success is taking UGC/social and incorporating it into the company’s core strength, that is, search and web browsing.
