Samsung Counters Apples Lawsuit With Kubrik’s 2001: A Space Odyssey

The patent battle between Apple [1] and Samsung [2] seems to have taken a scene from the Theater of the Absurd. In response to Apple’s claim that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 had “slavishly copied” Apple’s iPad, Samsung has provided its own, er, evidence: images from Stanley Kubrik’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, which show two astronauts using personal tablet computers.

That’s right, folks, movie evidence.

It was only last week that Apple got a preliminary injunction against Samsung in a German court; this prevented the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the European Union. However, Samsung appealed and the court ruled [3] that the injunction could not be applied to the entire EU; the injunction is in effect only in Germany.

As the case winds its way through the courts, we can’t help but wonder: Can Star Trek evidence be far behind?
