
The patent battle between Apple and Samsung seems to have taken a scene from the Theater of the Absurd. In response to Apple’s claim that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 had “slavishly copied” Apple’s iPad, Samsung has provided its own, er, evidence: images from Stanley Kubrik’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, which show two astronauts using personal tablet computers.
That’s right, folks, movie evidence.
It was only last week that Apple got a preliminary injunction against Samsung in a German court; this prevented the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the European Union. However, Samsung appealed and the court ruled that the injunction could not be applied to the entire EU; the injunction is in effect only in Germany.
As the case winds its way through the courts, we can’t help but wonder: Can Star Trek evidence be far behind?
