Is CNN Buying News Aggregator Zite?

For a news organization, CNN [1] has remained surprisingly tight-lipped about the possible purchase of Zite, a news aggregation app. According to TechCrunch, the two companies have been in acquisition talks. Now that Flipboard has proven the survivability of these kinds of apps, expect similar deals to follow.

In terms of the (possible) Zite deal, it makes sense that not just CNN but Zite is keeping quiet: Zite has had its share of shake-ups, from news organizations unhappy with its UI to bringing on a new CEO. But a deal in the $20-$25 million range (which is what Canadian news site Techvibes is reporting), should help ease those woes.

It’s clear what value CNN brings to Zite; what isn’t quite clear his how CNN benefits from the deal.
