We can’t quite believe it ourselves, but it seems Apple has been unable to keep up with orders for the 13-inch Macbook Airs. And this is having an interesting effect: much like high-value tickets to a football game, the prices on some of these Macs have been reported to be above Apple’s list pricing.

According to Apple Insider, some resellers have been pricing the Macbook Airs at $200-$300 above MSRP. For example, Amazon lists the 128GB 13-inch Air for $1,549 and the 256GB for $1,849.99. Other resellers, like MacMall, are simply out of stock; Best Buy’s is out of stock on the $128GB model with no 256GB model in sight.

This all begs the question: Did Apple completely underestimate demand for the 13-inch model? Or was there a production problem?
