Foursquare Introduces Event Check-ins

Partners with ESPN, Movietickets.com, and Songkick for event information.

Foursquare, the mobile check-in application, is adding event check-ins for movies, concerts, and sporting events. Now, a sports fans checking in at Yankee Stadium will also post information about what game he or she is at. If Foursquare could only add virtual heckling capabilities for when the Red Sox are in town, then we’d be talking. The company has partnered with ESPN, Movietickets.com, and Songkick for event information.

Foursquare gave the idea of event check-ins a trial run at South by Southwest, and the SXSW crowd seemed to take to it. Whether or not these new partnerships will provide any additional revenue for Foursquare is as of yet unclear. Foursquare has been valued at $600 million, but the company has yet to tap a steady revenue channel.

    I agree they need to be smart on how to build it on a large scale, but it does not sound like a test for the masses, rather a test for large companies to use Foursquare more. The smaller organizer of conferences or meetups will gain little benefit from this. Why event planners are not included?
