In spite of concerns about BlackBerry’s decline, Research in Motion has launched a new cloud-based management system tailored for SMBs, reports InformationWeek. BlackBerry Management Center is a free, web-based service that provides a simple way to manage and protect BlackBerry smartphones remotely.

The new service offers companies with up to 100 BlackBerry handsets the ability to manage consumer-grade accounts in a central interface with remote administration, backup and restoration, and security features such as remote locking and wiping and find-my-phone features.

“Out of the box, with these features, for free, this is fairly novel,” said Tim Doherty, research analyst for SMB mobility at IDC who is optimistic about the service.

As for RIM, the company sees BlackBerry Management Center as a big growth opportunity said Pete Deveyni, senior VP of email and management platforms at Research in Motion.
