Move Over QR, Short Codes, StarStar Numbers are Catching On

Consumers don't need to text you or use an app and camera to get information about your brand. They can just dial **YOURBRAND.

What’s the fastest way to connect your brand to customers? You may have used QR codes (short for “Quick Response”) that let a person with a smartphone and reader app scan a little pixillated box to get product or contact information, connect to a wireless network, or open a Web page. Or maybe you use short codes that let people send a text message to get similar info from your company.

Even faster, though, are StarStar Numbers, branded vanity mobile numbers designed to be promoted as part of any marketing campaign that let consumers call a brand’s name. For instance, if you’ve got a craving for Samoas or Thin Mints, you can call (not text) **GSCOOKIES and you’ll instantly recieve a text message with a link to a Girl Scout Cookie Locator app.

The trend seems to be catching on with investors as well. Zoove, the exclusive provider of StarStar Numbers for Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile, just announced it has closed a $15 million round of Series D funding, led by new investor Panorama Capital with which it plans to further accelerate its StarStar Numbers operations.

For more information, visit Zoove.com or call **ZOOVE (**96683) from a mobile phone.

Wow! just tried it and someone answered! I just want a click thru not a live person.

It would be easier to for users to recognize QRcodes than these **codes.

Isn’t the whole point of SMS and Shortcodes being the ability to get information without making a voice call?  What am I missing here?  Typing YES to the shortcode of 96683 and hit Enter,  is much less work, and less costly in terms of billable minutes, than typing **96683 and hitting Call, holding the phone up to your ear, listening to the words or song or whatever, then getting the text, and having to open and read the text.

Just checked their pricing… holy sh**   (my StarStar reaction) !!  $1500 per month is the cheapest package!!! They go up over $7000 per month. Guess I won’t be **playing.
