NBC 10 Philadelphia [1] has announced a partnership with Foursquare, the location-based social media social network. The news station will use the technology to provide up-to-the-minute coverage of local news, the station says.
“We’re excited that NBC 10 Philadelphia has come up with such a creative way to deliver local news and engage viewers in conversations about the top stories of the day,” Jonathan Crowley, director of business development for Foursquare, said in a press release.
NBC 10, which serves the Delaware Valley area, plans to use Foursquare as a conduit for on-the-scene reporting in developing news situations. A reporter will be assigned to a story, then will provide updates from a location using Foursquare’s platform in conjunction with other news coverage.
“We’ve tried to be pretty aggressive in the world of social media since the onset,” says Kathleen Burke, a publicist with NBC 10. ”I thought this would be a good way to add to our existing social media presence.”
NBC’s news follows the White House’s announcement [2] yesterday that the commander-in-chief would begin checking in to presidential waypoints using Foursquare.
