Two new sections on Twitter are going to change the way content is displayed.
Two new tabs will replace the “@Mentions” tab: “@username” and “Activity.” These two tabs will show the social activity around a user and his or her tweets, and will flow in realtime.
The @username (to be replaced by a user’s Twitter name) tab, will display replies to tweets, new followers, retweets, and when a user is made a favorite or added to a list. The activity stream will show the same features, but related to everyone a user follows.
These changes are a key move by the company to beef if its social graph, while keeping its standard reverse chronological stream intact.
The changes were rolled out for a small set of users and will continue over the next few weeks. Mobile applications will remain the same for now.
