
Web publishing platform Wix.com announced the launch of WixMobile, a free click-and-create platform that lets users quickly and easily publish sites that are optimized for viewing on mobile devices with no coding necessary.
The announcement is a boon for cost-conscious small businesses looking to reach the growing number of potential customers who log serious online time on their mobile devices. Best of all, it’s operates with a Tumblr-like simplicity: users select a favorite template, customize the format–including background, text, colors and icons–include all necessary information, then publish. Wix claims a mobile site can be created and published in just 10 minutes.
According to Wix, a mere 1% of websites are optimized for mobile viewing, meaning an easy and free mobile site publishing platform could be just what a number of small businesses need. The initial numbers seem to support that idea: Wix claims more than 3,000 mobile sites are created daily from their 12 million users worldwide. The company is already looking to expand the functionality by integrating mCommerce–like eCommerce, but for mobile–blog, video and music capabilities.
