According to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation [1], one child goes missing every 40 seconds. To help parents be better prepared for these sudden and scary situations, the FBI has debuted its very first mobile application, an iPhone app called ‘Child ID [2]‘.
The mobile app gives parents a way to electronically store photos and vital information about their children, should they ever need to provide physical identifiers to security or police officers for any reason. Despite the private nature of this information, the FBI stresses that it doesn’t collect or store any information that users enter into the app until they themselves decide to send it to the authorities.
The app, which is free to download, also allows parents to shoot e-mails to the nearby authorities, and offers tips on how to keep children safe and what to do in the first few hours after a child goes missing.
