FlixMaster Simplifies Interactive Video

With the dawn of HTML5, videos that give the user the option to choose the next step have boomed on video services such as Youtube. Riding the wave of interactive choose-your-own-adventure video applications is Boulder, Colorado start-up Flixmaster [1]. The company, one of the members of the TechStars Boulder incubator, offers a drag-and-drop interface that creates an interactive video without the financial burden.
The program is currently in beta, with 75 clients utilizing its simplified toolset: clips are bound together using simple links, creating a map that branches out given the different options that a user will receive. FlixMaster automatically embeds graphical buttons to overlay on top of the video, and the user can click on the choice they would like to make to take the movie to the next level.
The resulting video is a fully-interactive HTML5 application, only relying on flash as a back-up tool. The videos can be viewed on mobile platforms, as well, as fickle flash-avoider Apple has already readily accepted HTML5 players into its system.
No pricing plan has been set, but a tiered plan is predicted that will control availability to analytics and other premium features. It will be demonstrated officially, through TechStars Boulder, on Thursday.
