
Twitter unveiled a new model for advertising Thursday that promotes brands’ tweets and guarantees users will see those tweets.
Now, when a user logs into the microblogging website, messages from brands they follow will automatically be pushed to the top as opposed to remaining in chronological order. To push these tweets down, users must view the tweets.
Among the new advertisers are JetBlue, LivingSocial, Starbucks and others.
In April 2010, Twitter launched its “promoted tweets” advertising model, which initially put advertisements in a user’s feed and made them searchable. Advertisers weren’t assured, however, that their tweets would be read.
Twitter, which has more than 200 million registered users, is valued at $8 billion and is expected to go public. The website made $45 million in revenue in 2010 and is expected to make $150 million this year
