DOJ Wants a Closer Look at Google’s AdMeld Acquisition

Google [1] has been pretty busy of late, launching new projects and snapping up companies right and left. But one of the firm’s proposed acquisitions is getting some extra scrutiny from the Department of Justice. Google’s plan to buy AdMeld [2], an internet advertising firm, has the DOJ making a second request for information about the $400 million acquisition. Could the deal fall through?
Google is poo-poohing the suggestion that there could be trouble in the waters. Google’s VP of display advertising, Neal Mohan says although the request slows down their move in the space, it comes as no surprise. But, notes TG Daily’s Emma Wollacott, “Such requests can and do lead to problems,” as Google had already experienced in its bid to acquire ITA Software last year.
Still, both Google and AdMeld’s Michael Barrett seem confident that this deal will pass muster.
