LiveChat, a provider of live chat software for websites, announced today that its service would offer an option to allow e-commerce sites to connect with users’ Facebook profiles. The capability will allow LiveChat’s clients to gather personal information about visitors to their sites.

“We decided to offer the Facebook integration because, right now, you get basic details like what’s the host name, what’s the IP address,” says Mariusz Cieply, CEO of LiveChat. “With the Facebook integration we will be able to provide them with lots of information like what you find on a customer’s Facebook profile.”

The idea, Cieply says, is that e-commerce sites will be able to use information from an uncertain shopper’s profile to provide better customer assistance.

The integration will be respectful of users’ privacy, Cieply says. Visitors to e-commerce sites will have to approve access to their Facebook profiles.

LiveChat’s e-commerce clients are always looking for new ways to get more information about their customers, Cieply says. Though the company is based in Poland, most of its customers, which include ING and the Better Business Bureau, are in the United States.

Yeah, it is a good idea. Live chat used in facebook can attract more people to join in facebook  and I consider there will be a big challenge with other similar industries.
