Google Ventures [1]-backed start-up Firespotter Labs has released its first mobile app: Nosh.me [2]. Describing itself as a cross between “Foursquare” and “Yelp,” Nosh.me allows users to take photos of the meal they are eating and write a short review about how much they liked the dish.
The process for capturing and reviewing food is simple: take a photo from your mobile phone, rate the dish out of five stars, and leave a short description or additional tips and tricks about the restaurant. Users are able to browse a feed of dishes their friends have already commented on, or search for a restaurant by name or location. Menus are also customizable, so new dishes can be added to a restaurant’s repertoire straight from the app.
To date, Nosh already has 150,000 menus, 475,000 restaurants and 10 million menu items in its database. It is currently available for download via iTunes or the Android Marketplace.
