
Shortly after William Shatner joined Google Plus, his account was shuttered for “violating standards.” The Priceline pitchman even tweeted the news: “My Google+ account was flagged for violating standards. Saying hello to everyone apparently is against the rules maybe I should say goodbye?”
Ever the tough negotiator, though, Shatner’s profile was reinstated.
TechCrunch’s Robin Wauters notes that Google Plus is still in beta, so there are a few kinks to work out. Shatner’s ouster from Plus, he notes, might have been the result of the automated banning process. A good number of users likely reported Shatner’s profile as fake.
Sounds suspicious, right? We thought so, too. Neither Google nor Shatner is providing details of what caused him to be banned. Which all begs the question: Was this just a Google marketing ploy?
