Is Apple Board Looking for Steve Jobs Successor?

"Hogwash" says Jobs, but Wall Street Journal reports at least one tech leader has been approached.

Yes, according to The Wall Street Journal. It would almost seem irresponsible not to: He’s currently on the latest in a series of medical leaves, and has had pancreatic cancer and a transplanted liver.

So it shouldn’t be a surprise that an insider claims the board had begun talks with at least one leader of a high-tech company and with headhunters. For his part, Jobs seems uninterested in stepping down, and asked about the report, he responded by e-mail: “I think it’s hogwash.”

Then again, maybe he doesn’t know. According to an unnamed insider, succession plans are discussed at every board meeting, but the board is “sworn to secrecy” about them.
