
If you’ve been following these blog posts, you may have read about the coming validation era, in which influence will be paramount as users seek to filter a flood of information from all directions. Apparently, Twitter sees it coming too. The company is buying BackType, a start-up whose purpose is to measure Twitter influence and identify the most valuable Twitter accounts for your industry or objectives.
Since conventional Twitter wisdom says that following the best/most influential accounts is much more important than acquiring thousands of random followers, that sounds like a useful service to us. In fact we wish we’d joined BackType before the acquisition since it is no longer offering new accounts.
Look for Twitter to incorporate BackType’s real-time analysis abilities in the next few months. And for more social media giants to incorporate influence and validation into their business models.
