Facebook to Release ‘Something Awesome’ Next Week

Speculation runs the gamut, but signs point to a new mobile feature.

Wait for it…Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg says the company will be launching, “something awesome” next week. The statement was just vague enough to pique our interest and have the blogosphere buzzing in a game of Twenty Questions about the new feature (Is it bigger than a breadbox? Animal, vegetable, or mineral?).

Given that Zuckerberg made the statement while on a visit to Facebook’s Seattle office, many are guessing that the “awesome” news could have something to do with the company’s mobile efforts, says ZDNet’s Emil Protalinski. Speculation runs the gamut: some think it might be either an iPad app or a photo-sharing app. Others say it could be the not-so-secret HTML5 platform code-named Project Spartan. A few are guessing Skype or Netflix integration.

Zuckerberg, meanwhile, is keeping mum.
